Earlier this fall we visited the NYS Fair in Syracuse.  Was there enough fried food to make our hearts stop a hundred times over?  Yes.  Was there plenty of other stuff to see?  Also, yes. (more…)

Taking some time to catch up with my photo backlog, here are some food-related pictures from our vacation to Montreal and Quebec City.  Can you smell the maple syrup??? (more…)

Well, I suppose I could let my pedometer tell the story:

The activity of the last few days is typical of my time off.  Either I sit around the house doing less than nothing, only lifting my head when my boyfriend comes in and asking him what we’re having for dinner … OR … I go running around the city like a crazy person.  When my boyfriend and I have the week off at the same time, we usually spend some of that time running around together.

On Wednesday we went out to Broad Channel in Queens to visit the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge and to check out all the cool buildings on stilts.  Today we went to Brooklyn to visit Greenpoint and Williamsburg, which involved lots of walking and lots of eating.  Polish food for lunch and Peruvian food for dinner = a truly international day!

Tomorrow we’re making separate plans.  My boyfriend is doing laundry stuff and family stuff, and I’m going to midtown and then stopping by my branch on a morale-building food-themed mission.

Pictures coming soon (featuring exotic food, cool buildings, scenic vistas, and “bison grass” vodka because … apparently that’s a thing???)  Overdue blog posts coming soon.  Bad movie reviews coming soon.  Stay tuned!!!

Today we braved the frigid air to visit my brother, after which we rushed back to our neighborhood to have some brunch and then stay home for the rest of the day.  I’m going to be spending most of the week catching up on reading, watching movies, and finally writing those Razzie reviews.

My boyfriend also has this week off, so we’re going to make a couple of day trips, see a movie or two, and try some new places for dinner.  Delightful!

Here are a bunch of photos I’ve taken over the last several months in different neighborhoods in the Bronx and Manhattan! (more…)

In addition to catching up on stuff that needed to get done — doing laundry and listening to podcasts — I also did more cooking than usual and also visited several different food halls / shopping destinations.  I made BBQ Short Ribs in the slow cooker and Kung Pao Chicken in the wok, which was the most cooking I’d done in a while.  And I shopped at Urban Space Vanderbilt and the holiday markets at Bryant Park, plus my boyfriend and I visited Chelsea Market and the Gansevoort Market on Veteran’s Day.  So we got a lot of Christmas shopping and even more food shopping done.  Here are a few highlights from our urban expeditions: (more…)
