After an overwhelming doctor’s appointment yesterday morning, I started gradually repairing my psyche last night. I went out with a Friend With Connections to see a screening of an excellent movie (which I can talk about next week after it comes out) and then we went out to Steak ‘n Shake afterwards. By the time I came back home I was feeling more in my right mind, my boyfriend was pleased that I was no longer sitting around the house feeling sorry for myself, and the cat was delighted to get some of my leftover burger.
Today I’m taking more steps in the healing process. I started by taking the first step in following my doctor’s advice, which I will not disclose here without getting into TMI territory (actually, no, I hadn’t crossed that line yet). Let’s just say that even though her advice was nothing I ever expected to hear from a doctor, I think she had a couple of salient points. And it does mean that if I follow her suggestions that the next year might take some unusual turns. Hopefully good ones, in the long run.
The rest of the day so far has been filled with watching some old movies — Enter the Dragon and Pandora and the Flying Dutchman — and reading a review book — Going Over by Beth Kephart. I’m also enjoying some leftover brisket and noodles, because nothing says healing, comfort, and happiness like leftover brisket and noodles.
Tonight I’m going out to dinner with friends at Bareburger. And good friends plus good burgers will also help out immeasurably in the healing / comfort / happiness department.
